How to check your Claude Code usage
Three ways to see where you stand, from fastest to most passive.
1. The /usage command
Inside a Claude Code session, type /usage. It prints your current 5-hour and weekly usage as a percentage, plus the time until each resets. This is the quickest check while you're already in the terminal.
2. The /status command
/status shows the same usage figures alongside account details: your plan, the active model, and effort or thinking settings. Use this when you want the fuller picture, not just the numbers.
3. Your account's usage page
Your Claude account's usage settings page shows the same 5-hour and weekly limits from a browser, including any separate model-specific weekly cap on plans that have one. Useful if you want to check from your phone or without opening a terminal.
What none of these tell you
All three give you a snapshot: where you are right now. None of them tell you whether your current pace will actually get you to the reset without running dry. Reading "62% used, 3 days left" still leaves you to do the maths on whether that's fine or not.
Checking it without checking manually
The alternative is having it visible without asking. ReserveGauge reads the same live Claude Code (and Codex) usage locally on your Mac, keeps it in the menu bar, and projects your current pace forward to reset, so the answer to "will I make it?" is already on screen before you need to ask.
